The farewell to the legendary soldier will be held in his native village of Bovshiv, Burshtyn community, on Thursday, March 9. The funeral will take place in Kyiv.
“The memorial for our legendary Dmytro Kotsiubailo, friend, son, partner, family member, brother, and comrade-in-arms will be held tomorrow in his native land, Bovshiv village, on March 9 at 12:00 pm in the house of culture, and afterwards in the church. The funeral will take place on March 10 in the capital of Ukraine,” said Vadym Kotsiubailo.
The death of a commander of the 67th Detached Mechanized Brigade was reported on Tuesday, March 7. The Hero of Ukraine was fatally wounded in the fighting near Bakhmut.
For reference. Dmytro Kotsiubailo was born on November 1, 1995, in the village of Zadnistrianske in Prykarpattia. He completed his secondary education at Bovshiv school. He continued his studies at an art lyceum in Ivano-Frankivsk. During the Revolution of Dignity, he was an active participant in the bloody events of that time. As soon as the Russian occupation began, the man went to military training in the Chernihiv region. He was one of the first soldiers at the front. He defended the Donetsk airport, survived the battles at Savur-Mohyla, Pisky, and Krasnohorivka.
In 2014 he commanded a platoon of volunteers, and in 2015 he became a company commander. In 2014, he was seriously wounded by a tank shell in the village of Pisky, Donetsk region. After recovery, he returned to the front after 3 months of rehabilitation. On March 17, 2016, he was appointed commander of the 1st Da Vinci Wolves Detached Assault Company, which was reformatted into a battalion.
Kotsiubailo was the first volunteer to be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star in 2021. He was 26 years old at the time. He received the People's Hero award back in 2017.
From the beginning of the full-scale war, he headed the Da Vinci Wolves Detached Mechanized Battalion as part of the 67th Detached Mechanized Brigade.
