Ukrainian Security Service neutralizes network of Russian GRU agents in Dnipro, who were coordinating strikes on city's infrastructure

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported the neutralization of a Russian agent network whose members were targeting critical infrastructure, including energy companies

In Dnipro Ukrainian Security Service neutralized Russian intelligence network, which was subordinate to еhe Main Directorate of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces. 7 Russian agents were detained.

Members of the network transmitted to Russia data with coordinates of critical infrastructure objects, including locations of energy-generating enterprises.

"Russian occupying forces used this information to prepare and conduct attacks on the city. And after attacks, agents visited places of strikes to determine consequences of air attacks and re-adjust them," press service said.

Currently, investigators are checking whether agents of Russian Federation were involved in missile attack by Russian army on residential building in Dnipro, which occurred on January 14, 2023.

"In addition, agents of the Russian Federation collected intelligence on the basing and movement of units of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the territory of the region, trying to identify positions of Ukrainian air defense system," press service added.

Ukrainian Security Service informed that agents passed the data to Russian troops through resident of Dnipro, who was also a member of the group.

"He turned out to be a citizen of the Russian Federation, former resident of Dnipro, who in 2014 created local pro-Kremlin public organization. Its representatives advocated creation of the so-called "south-eastern Ukrainian republic" under control of aggressor country.

Later, attacker fled to Russia, where he was recruited by GRU personnel. According to their task, he created his own agency from his "ideological" like-minded compatriots," Ukrainian Security Service emphasized.

The group is said to have previously been in "standby mode", but became active in October 2022.

During searches, the following were found:

"On the basis of evidence collected by investigators of Ukrainian Security Service, suspects were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law)," Ukrainian Security Service summarized.
