Ukrainian pilots may take up to six months to master Western fighter jets - Brigadier General of Ukrainian Air Force
Ukrainian pilots can learn to fly Western fighter jets in less than six months. Ukraine needs aircraft with F-16-like characteristics
This was reported by Serhiy Holubtsov, Brigadier General of the Ukrainian Air Force, on Telegram.
According to him, Ukrainian pilots are "squeezing the maximum" out of outdated equipment that is morally and physically exhausted.
"We need modern multi-purpose aircraft capable of performing a wider range of tasks than the old Soviet equipment in service with the Air Force. At the moment, we are not talking about a specific type, but focus on technical characteristics," Holubtsov wrote.
The military recalled that recently two Ukrainian pilots were tested in the United States, which gave the allies an understanding of how quickly Ukrainian pilots can master modern combat aircraft, including the F-16.
"We have good news - the period for retraining our pilots for Western fighters can be less than 6 months," Holubtsov noted.
According to the brigadier general of the Ukrainian Air Force, Ukraine has the capabilities to store aircraft. In particular, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already received Western air defense systems, including for the protection of airfield infrastructure.
