The head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies Ihor Chalenko noted that at the current stage of the negotiations, turbulence will increase even more

He said this on the air of the Espreso TV channel.

"Obviously, Trump wants to reduce the military presence in Europe, but Russian Federation is waiting for this vacuum in order to restore the spheres of influence, that is, the Soviet Union plus the Warsaw Pact 2.0 organization, only in this century. And Moscow does not hide its desires," noted Chalenko.

According to the analyst, the US position is to send a signal to the Russians that the Americans can compromise and, accordingly, want to see the same compromise from the other side, that is, steps towards it. But the Russian Federation has chosen a different strategy and does not deviate from its own positions, and continues to rebroadcast Putin's theses of the June 2024 model, that is, ultimatums to Ukraine.

"The only thing the Russian Federation is trying to do is to lure the Americans through rare earth minerals in the Arctic and other regions. Therefore, it would be appropriate for the West to analyze that the Russian Federation is using the current negotiations exclusively for the already destroyed isolation, in order to weaken sanctions and launch Western technologies in Russia in areas that are critically important for the restoration of the Russian economy after the sanctions pressure. Actually, this is what they are doing. Why this is not seen in the US is an open question," Chalenko emphasized.

The head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies stated that at the current stage, turbulence will intensify even more, because the US is moving away from its role as a "world policeman".

  • Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, diplomat Valeriy Chaly noted that Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff is gaining more and more influence.
  • On Thursday, February 27, negotiations were held between Russian and American representatives in Istanbul regarding the problems of the work of embassies — they lasted 6.5 hours.
