Ukrainian intelligence discloses what tactics Russia uses in drone attacks
Russia resorts to the massive launch of “kamikaze” drones at night to bypass the Ukrainian air defense system
Vadym Skibitskyi, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, shared the information in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, launching a small number of drones will not have the necessary effect, so Russia launches a large number of drones to break through Ukraine’s air defense system.
"Read the comments of Ukrainian Air Force representatives on the tactics of using drones. They are very detailed. A massive swarm of drones is aimed at breaking through our air defense system and hitting objects. And if you launch 5 or 10 there will be no such effect. And they are trying to launch a large number of drones in order to break through our air defense system. This is confirmed by Ukraine’s Air Force. According to them, the recent drone attacks forced us to recharge NASAMS systems during the raid for the first time," Skibitskyi said.
He added that if there is a very large number of drones in a particular direction, they can simply break through the air defense system in that area.
"Russia can launch them at different altitudes, in different directions to bypass air defense. They can change the launch area. Now they launch drones from the Russian coast of the Azov Sea, and before that, they would launch from Crimea. They can choose another direction, where we have fewer air defense systems. They will try to break through to the objects," Skibitsky noted.
According to him, as of now, Russia has launched 660 kamikaze drones, out of 1,750 Iran is supposed to have provided.
"They really have problems with the arsenal, including drones. To date, they have launched about 660 “shaheds”. The contract with Iran provides for 1.750. It takes time for delivery and preparation. In recent days, they have used a large number of drones, and these stocks need to be replenished. According to our data, they will have another batch of delivery. We will specify how much it will be later. As a rule, they used to deliver batches of 250 to 300 units. Let's see how it will be this time," Skibitskyi summed up.
- On January 4, Vadym Skibitskyi explained that the statements that Russia will soon exhaust its stock of high-precision missiles are based on the estimations of Russia’s stocks and the fact that it launches about 80 missiles in massive strikes.
