Ukrainian films Butterfly Vision and Iron Butterflies to be screened in The Hague

The films Butterfly Vision and Iron Butterflies will represent Ukraine in the competition program of the Movies that Matter international festival

Ukraine's State Film Agency reports that Butterfly Vision by Maksym Nakonechnyi and Iron Butterflies by Roman Liubyi will be screened at the Movies that Matter International Human Rights Film Festival in The Hague. 

Ukrainian films that address the issue of Russia's war crimes in Ukraine will participate in the Camera Justitia competition program.

The 15th International Film Festival Movies that Matter will be held on March 24 - April 1 in The Hague.

                    Butterfly Vision

The debut feature film by director Maksym Nakonechnyi. The script was written in collaboration with writer and director Iryna Tsilyk. The film participated in the Cannes Film Festival and won the Odesa International Film Festival.

The protagonist, played by actress Rita Burkovska, is a drone expert with the call sign ‘Butterfly’ who returns from captivity. Her family, friends, comrades-in-arms, and husband are waiting for her. However, a new life also brings new challenges.

Producers: Lisa Smith, Daria Bassel and international co-producers: Anita Yuka, Dagmar Sedlackova, Mario Adamson, Sergio S. Ayala.

Countries of production: Ukraine (TABOR), Czech Republic (MasterFilm), Croatia (4Film), Sweden (Sisyfos Film Production).

The film was created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Eurimages, the Czech Film Fund, the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the Swedish Film Institute, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, and the Ukrainian Institute.

The film will be released in Ukrainian cinemas on April 6.

                     Iron Butterflies

The documentary is directed by Roman Liubyi, who is also known for the projects War Note and Euromaidan. The Rough Cut. 

The film had its world premiere in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, and its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The film explores the circumstances of the downing of MH17, the rhetoric of Russian propagandists around the event, and the reaction of the international community to the crime. The plot of the film unfolds through a combination of documentary footage and modern theater and animation.

Producers: Andrii Kotliar, Volodymyr Tykhyi, David Lechner, Isabelle Bertolone and Trini Götze.

The film was produced by Babylon'13 in co-production with the German companies TRIMAFILM and RBB/ARTE with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the Ukrainian State Film Agency.

The film will be shown in Ukrainian cinemas in July this year.

Earlier, it was also reported that Iryna Tsilyk's Felix and Me film will be screened at the Movies that Matter International Film Festival in The Hague.
