Ukrainian Defense Forces repel all Russian attacks near Kupiansk - AFU General Staff

This is stated in the evening report of the AFU General Staff for January 23.

In turn, Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit 3 Russian personnel concentrations and a logistics depot.

The General Staff confirmed Russian losses for January 20 to 21. Russian troops launched an offensive in the Zaporizhzhia direction near Mali Shcherbaki. As a result of a military clash with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian army's losses during this period amounted to more than 50 soldiers, 16 of whom were killed. In addition, a tank, 6 armored personnel carriers and a Tiger armored vehicle were destroyed. Another 4 military vehicles were damaged.

Russian troops are trying deprive local residents of access to information in the Luhansk region

In a number of settlements in the Severodonetsk district, Luhansk region, Russian troops are trying to deprive the local population of access to information. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian television and mobile communications are not available there.

Also, since the beginning of January this year, the number of injured Russian soldiers in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region has significantly increased. Local hospitals are overcrowded, all seriously injured are concentrated in medical institutions in the region, and a small number are sent to the temporarily occupied Crimea for further treatment.

During the day, Russian forces launched 18 air, 4 missile strikes, and 24 MLRS attacks

Two missiles were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense.

In Lyman, Vuhledar, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops are on the defensive. The situation on the border with Belarus remains unchanged. 

Three settlements in the Sumy region, as well as 9 in the Kharkiv region were shelled by Russian forces. 

The situation in other areas is as follows:

In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops fired at 6 settlements in the Kharkiv region, as well as 2 others in the Luhansk region.

In the Lyman direction, 5 settlements in the Luhansk region were hit by fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, 11 settlements of the Donetsk region were shelled.

In the Avdiivka direction, 6 settlements in the Donetsk region came under Russian fire.

In the Vuhledar direction, 5 settlements in the Donetsk region also came under fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian artillery fire hit a settlement in the Donetsk region and 5 more in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the Kherson direction, Russian troops are shelling civilians on a daily basis. Antonivka and Kherson came under MLRS fire once again.

• On January 23, Ukrainian anti-aircraft units destroyed two Russian Su-25 attack aircraft, a Ka-52 helicopter, two Kh-59M missiles and an Orlan-10 drone in the eastern sector of the front line.
