Ukrainian Defense Forces advance in Melitopol sector - General Staff

Despite Russian attempts to counterattack in different parts of the front, Ukrainian forces continue their advance on Melitopol

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on August 27, 2023, on Facebook. 

During the day, Russia launched 11 missile strikes, 32 airstrikes, 38 MLRS attacks

The 550th day of the Russian Federation's large-scale armed aggression against our country is underway.

"At night, the enemy launched another attack with air-launched cruise missiles. As a result of successful combat operations, the Air Force destroyed 4 cruise missiles," the General Staff noted.

During the day, Russia launched 11 missile strikes, 32 airstrikes, and about 38 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Residential buildings, schools and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed.

"The probability of missile and air strikes throughout Ukraine remains high," the General Staff emphasizes. 

Ukrainians strike at 10 areas of Russian troop concentration overnight

"Over the course of the day, the Defense Forces' aviation launched 10 strikes on the invading Russian forces' military positions and 1 strike on the enemy's anti-aircraft missile systems," the General Staff said.

In particular, missile and artillery units destroyed 1 munitions depot, 2 electronic warfare stations, as well as 3 artillery pieces at enemy firing positions over the course of the day.

There were 23 combat engagements over the last day: frontline situation

On August 27, there were 23 combat engagements.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire border line with mortars and artillery: over 25 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

Russian attacks in other Ukrainian regions

In the Kupyansk direction, 5 settlements of the Kharkiv region came under artillery shelling. 

In the Lyman direction, over 10 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions came under Russian fire. 

In the Bakhmut direction, over 10 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces. 

In the Avdiivka direction, more than 6 settlements in the Donetsk region were attacked. 

In the Maryinka direction, over 6 settlements in the Donetsk region came under shelling. 

In the Shakhtarsk direction, over 5 localities in the Donetsk region were shelled. 

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, over 30 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the occupying Russian army.
