Ukrainian athlete Mahuchikh wins World Championship in high jump
Ukrainian athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh has won a gold medal in the high jump and became the world champion for the first time in her career
Suspilne reported the information.
The outlet noted that the Ukrainian won the gold medal with a result of 2.01 meters.
Mahuchikh found herself competing against her usual contenders at the top level: Olympic vice-champion Nicola Olyslagers, reigning world champion Eleanor Patterson, and Euro 2023 bronze medalist Angelina Topić, among others.
"Among the future medalists, none managed to clear the 2.01-meter mark on their first attempt. However, Mahuchikh succeeded on her second jump, matching her season's best performance and securing the top spot in the intermediate rankings!" the statement reads.
Petterson, on the other hand, finished second in the final due to the advantage in attempts, and Olislagers finished third.
