Ukrainian Armed Forces destroy Russian Su-25 and hit other targets, Russia launches 4 missile and 13 airstrikes - AFU General Staff

This was reported on January 17 by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

During the day, Ukrainian defenders destroyed a Russian Su-25 aircraft.

In particular, units of the missile forces and artillery of Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 2 Russian control points, as well as concentrations of personnel, an ammunition depot, an electronic warfare station and a radar station.

"During the day, the enemy launched 4 missile strikes, 2 of them on a civilian object in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. The enemy also launched 13 airstrikes and 23 MLRS attacks," the statement reads.

Russian forces still aim at capturing the Donetsk region within its administrative borders. They focus their main efforts on conducting an offensive in the Bakhmut direction. The Russian army conducts unsuccessful offensive actions in the Avdiivka direction.

In Kupiansk and Lyman directions, Russian forces are trying to improve their tactical situation, in Vuhledar, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions they are defending.

On the border with Belarus, the situation is without significant changes, no enemy offensive groups were detected. 

Along Ukraine’s northern border with Russia, one settlement of the Chernihiv region, another one of the Sumy region, and 11 more of the Kharkiv region suffered mortar and artillery shelling launched by Russian troops.

In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops shelled 3 settlements of the Kharkiv region and 2 of the Luhansk region.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces fired from the entire range of artillery at 4 settlements of the Luhansk region and 2 of the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, 12 settlements of the Donetsk region were hit by Russian artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, 6 settlements of the Donetsk region came under Russian fire.

In the Vuhledar direction, Russian troops shelled with artillery and mortars 3 settlements of the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, more than 10 settlements suffered from Russian artillery fire.

In the Kherson direction, Russia continues terrorizing civilians. In particular, Antonivka and Kherson suffered an MLRS attack, civilians were injured.

Russia isolates local population from information in the Kherson region and conduct raids to find its deserters

Occupying Russian forces are reportedly trying to isolate the civilian population on the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson region from access to alternative sources of information.

"Along with stopping the broadcast of all Ukrainian TV channels, the invading army allows only those communication services that are provided by Russian operators," the report reads.

Russian forces are intensifying searches for their deserters on the temporarily occupied territories. Under the pretext of searching for Ukrainian saboteurs, Russian soldiers raid the settlements of the Kherson region.
