Ukraine's Security Service exposes interregional spy network working for Russia's FSB, detains ringleader

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained members of the interregional agent network working for Russia's FSB (a security service that, alongside the SVR foreign intelligence service is a successor organization to the KGB - Ed), who were leaking information to Moscow about the Ukrainian Armed Forces and strategic facilities throughout Ukraine

The Security Service of Ukraine reported this.

Law enforcement officers exposed the head of the FSB interregional espionage network, nicknamed Professor. He turned out to be a resident of Odesa.

"To fulfill the tasks of the Russian special service, he created an extensive agent-informant network, involving residents of other regions, who received monetary rewards. Thus, he became a resident who was looking for potential agents for the FSB, ready to perform the tasks of gathering information and correcting the fire", it is noted.

The criminal was scouting for information about anti-aircraft defense, anti-ship complexes, artillery in Odesa, fortifications, facilities of the SBU and Operational Command South, as well as social and political situations in Odesa.

"Facts of repeated receipt of monetary rewards, videos and photographs of locations of military units, for which the "Professor" purchased a special gadget at the expense of the FSB, were documented", the SBU added.

The Odesa citizen was detained during reconnaissance around the Odesa Regional Military Administration.

One of the agents of this network in the Ivano-Frankivsk region has also already been detained. The detainee had to find out the locations of military facilities and roadblocks in the region, the movement of equipment, as well as the location and activities of regional "decision-making centers".

Currently, reports of suspicion of treason are being prepared for them.

All involved people are being identified.
