This was stated on Friday by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Serhiy Kyslytsya, during a discussion in the Security Council Arria-Formula Meeting on the findings of the Independent UN Commission of Inquiry on Russian crimes in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
The restoration of justice, ensuring accountability and the release of all Ukrainians illegally and forcibly captured by Russia are the main principles of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, he reminded.
According to Kyslytsya, the philosophy of the Peace Formula is that accountability for the most serious crimes under international law committed on the territory of Ukraine must be ensured through proper and fair investigations and prosecutions at the national or international level.
"Justice for all victims and prevention of future crimes must be ensured. The Russian Federation must be held accountable for any violations of international law in or against Ukraine, including its aggression in violation of the UN Charter, as well as for any violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law," the Permanent Representative emphasized.
Kyslytsya quoted the Russian Soviet poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko, who said: "Justice is a train that is always late."
Addressing the Russian representative, he said: "The Russian Federation can hide from justice for a long time. But the sooner the Russian Federation runs away from justice through the tunnel of crimes it has fallen into by its own choice, the sooner the train of justice will catch up with it."
On October 28, members of the UN Security Council discussed in the Arria-Formula Meeting the findings of the Independent UN Commission of Inquiry on Russian crimes in Ukraine.
