Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany is optimistic about new Leopard tanks
Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksii Makeyev believes that Germany will decide to supply Ukraine with armored vehicles and Leopard tanks
He expressed this opinion in an interview with LIGA.net.
Answering a journalist's question whether Germany will decide to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Makeyev said: “The weapons supplied to Ukraine are definitely defensive. Ukraine defends its territory and is not going to attack anyone. I am sure that Germany will mature to a political decision on the supply of armored vehicles and tanks. We’ve already managed to convince Germany to change its position on salvo fire systems, artillery, portable anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as air defense systems. Because, in addition to IRIS-T, let's remember the 30 Gepards that protect our sky.”
The ambassador noted that due to relentless diplomatic work, Ukraine manages to convince Germany to help Ukrainians.
“The very fact of the Russian attack on February 24 led to a rethinking of the role of Germany and its Eastern policy. The visits of Scholz, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and President Steinmeier had a great impact on politicians. I will try to convince the Germans to look at Ukraine through the eyes of Ukrainians. And Germany should be given credit. It supplied Ukraine with a significant part of the armaments. It has taken the lead in the supply of air defense systems,” the diplomat noted.
