Ukraine's Air Force says it is possible to fly an F16 in a week, the main thing is to learn how to fight on it
You can learn to fly the multifunctional American F-16 fighter jets in a week. It is much more difficult to fight on them, because they are not like the Soviet ones
Air Force Command spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said in an interview with Voice of America.
"Pilot training is a problem because Western equipment has a completely different piloting philosophy. These are completely different technological things. MiG-29 and F-16 aircraft are the same age, they are fourth-generation aircraft. But the F-16 has gone through several stages of deep modernisation," he explained.
According to him, young pilots are sent to train on the F-16 because they are better "friends" with modern technology.
"The emphasis here is on young pilots who are better able to communicate with the latest technologies, gadgets, etc... Touch screens - the F-16 has it all. Here, you need to understand how it works - like a child playing a computer game, they master it step by step," explained the Air Force spokesman.
He stressed that Ukrainian pilots must learn to effectively use all types of F-16 weapons against air, surface and ground targets, to work as a pair or a unit in simple or difficult weather conditions.
This requires extensive practice, first with an instructor, then in independent flights.
"The main thing is to learn how to fly it. This is the main thing. They will be flying in a week. Well, a week or two, depending on how long it takes," Ihnat summed up.
