On February 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law on the demobilization of conscripts that the parliament passed last week

This is evidenced by information on the Ukrainian parliament’s website.

The document was returned with the president's signature.

The law will come into force the day after it is signed.

On February 23, the Ukrainian parliament supported the draft law on the demobilization of conscripts introduced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak said.

"The parliament approved draft law No.11035 on conscripts. It was adopted as a basis and in general. We give the president the right to dismiss them (conscripts - ed.)," he wrote.

The bill was voted in favor by 319 MPs.

On February 23, Roman Kostenko, secretary of the National Security and Defense Committee, told LIGA.net that the committee had supported the draft law on the demobilization of conscripts and proposed to give them a 12-month delay from further mobilization.

On February 22, the draft law was published on the parliament's website.

The president defined the document as urgent.

As indicated in the comparative table to the draft law, the document proposes the possibility of discharging conscripts whose service term expired during martial law and whose military service was extended beyond the established terms.

"Establish that during the mobilization announced by the Presidential Decree of February 24, 2022 "On General Mobilization", conscripts whose military service expired during martial law and whose military service was extended beyond the established terms shall be discharged from military service to the reserve within the terms specified by the Presidential Decree," the document says.

Earlier, MP Tsymbaliuk said that Ukraine needs to demobilize conscripts as soon as possible.

"We demand that they be demobilized immediately, within two months. They deserve it, they have served for several months, and some of them for several years. And their deferment period should be 12 months, so that they can organize their civilian life, and some of them can sign a contract for continued service," the politician explained.

  • The Ukrainian parliament is proposed to adopt a bill to increase military salaries to UAH 200,000. This will apply to those who have been fighting on the frontline for 2 years.
