March 1-8 live war map: Kursk bridgehead at risk of collapse, Russian offensive stalls across front
Most of the fighting in early spring was in the Kursk region, near Pokrovsk, and Toretsk, but overall, clashes are decreasing. While the situation in Kursk is a threat to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Russia’s offensive is stalling elsewhere
Kursk front
The Russians carried out a series of attacks that allowed them to penetrate even deeper into Ukrainian defense, particularly to the east and west of the logistical artery leading from Sumy region to Sudzha. After capturing Sverdlikovo, the Russian forces continued their advance on the western flank, capturing almost all of Lebedivka and pushing our troops back to the village of Loknya. Meanwhile, the enemy continued attacks on border villages in the Sumy region, threatening to reach our rear and cut off logistics to Sudzha while still on Ukrainian territory. While the Defense Forces managed to repel these assaults near Zhuravka, the enemy continued to accumulate small units near Novenke, aiming to break through to Basivka. From this village to the Sumy–Sudzha highway, there is less than 3 km.
More concerning, however, was the Russian strike from the eastern flank, where they managed to break through Ukrainian defenses near the village of Kurylivka and advance up to 7 km west of the Psel River. As a result, our forces in the vicinity of the village of Huyevo found themselves cut off from logistics. Stabilization efforts are currently underway to prevent the enemy from advancing further and breaking through to the road to Sudzha, which has already been under enemy fire control for a long time.

In the north, the Russian forces fully occupied Pohrebky. Ukrainian troops continued their retreat towards Mala Loknya, where pre-prepared defensive positions exist. A 3-km-wide gray zone, uncontrolled by either side, has formed between Pohrebky and Mala Loknya. To the east, this gray zone extends up to 7 km. Taking advantage of this, the Ukrainian Armed Forces improved their positions and secured Cherkaskе Pоrichnе.
Amid the Russian advance in the Kursk region, discussions have resurfaced about the feasibility of holding the Kursk bridgehead. Seven months have passed since the start of the Kursk operation. At its peak, the Ukrainian Armed Forces controlled over 1,000 km², and currently, they still fully hold 351 km², with an additional 178 km² in the gray zone, meaning the Russians do not control more than 500 km².

Counterattacks near Kupyansk
The Defense Forces conducted several counterattacks on the Kupyansk front. One of these resulted in the enemy being pushed back several kilometers from the northern outskirts of Kupyansk in the Synkivka area. On the right bank of the Oskil River, Russian forces continue expanding their bridgehead. In particular, on its northern edge, they have increased the zone of control between the river and the village of Fiholivka.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to drive the Russians out of the forest on the outskirts of the village of Zаpadnе. The enemy has still not fully occupied the settlement of Dvorichna but continues trying to move along the river towards Kupyansk, attempting to drive a wedge between our defenses in Kindrashivka and Holubivka.

Ukrainian forces being pushed out of Luhansk region on Borova front
The Russian invaders managed to break through Ukrainian defense, which had held for many months in Zahryzove. As a result, they advanced 1.5 km along the Oskil River towards Borova. Fighting is still ongoing in Zahryzove itself, though the enemy is trying to bypass Ukrainian positions from both sides.
On the Borova–Svatove highway, the Russian forces pushed the Defense Forces out of Nadiya—one of the few Luhansk villages that was still under our control. Here, the Russian troops are attempting to flank our defenders, as they have been unable to break through westward in the area of the village of Stepy for many months.

Chasiv Yar holds the line
In recent days, Russian forces launched one of their decisive assaults on the defense of Chasiv Yar, deploying several dozen armored vehicles. Presumably, the enemy hoped to finally resolve the issue of fully occupying the city. However, the Defense Forces managed to trap the armored vehicles and completely destroy them. The only success for the Russian army was the expansion of the gray zone on the northern outskirts of the city, near the cemetery.

Ukrainian Armed Forces’ precision strikes near Pokrovsk
For almost a month now, Russian forces have had no achievements to boast about on the Pokrovsk front. The number of their assaults has sharply decreased. Recently, a new anti-record was recorded here—only 17 attacks in a day. The Russian offensive on this section of the front has practically stalled, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to carry out localized counterattacks.
Specifically, we managed to push the enemy even further from Uspenivka and Udachne. In Pishchane, the Russians attempted their own counterattack in the southern part of the village, near the industrial zone, but the Defense Forces not only held the line but also struck back, advancing to the southeastern outskirts of the village. However, the biggest success may soon be the recapture of Shevchenko. Recently, Ukrainian troops attacked this settlement from the direction of Zvirove and pushed the invaders out of its northern part.

Novopavlivka front stalled
Despite recent claims by Russian forces about the complete occupation of the village of Andriivka, this information does not correspond to reality. Moreover, across the entire Novopavlivka front, the Russians failed to capture even a single kilometer of Ukrainian land over the past week. They did not manage to advance even 500 meters. The Ukrainian Armed Forces stabilized the situation not only in Konstiantynopil but also in almost all other critical areas.
Only on the front near Velyka Novosilka did the Russian enemy occupy part of the gray zone between Burlatske and Pryvilne. However, beyond that, they ran into our defenses.
It is quite likely that Russian forces have taken a pause for regrouping and resource accumulation. However, the Ukrainian military is confident that the decrease in the intensity of enemy attacks in many sections of the front is directly related to their enormous losses in infantry and equipment.
The maps were created using data from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other verified open sources. They are approximate and only represent general trends in the combat zone.
