April 10-17 live war map: Russian forces mobilize reserves to break through front lines

Russia has escalated its offensive operations, focusing on Chasiv Yar and the front west of Avdiivka. The situation remains highly challenging in the Marinka and Vuhledar directions, with an operational pause in the offensive observed in the Luhansk region. On average, over 70 combat clashes occur daily

Triple attack targeting Chasiv Yar

Chasiv Yar has become a primary target for air defense systems along the entire eastern front. Recognizing the difficulty of capturing a town positioned on high ground, Russian forces are prioritizing the destruction of our defensive positions.

The enemy is attempting to breach Chasiv Yar through three main avenues: via the nearly occupied Bohdanivka, through the forest north of the Ivanivske highway, and along the Bakhmut - Chasiv Yar road, passing through the already seized Khromove. With the invaders nearing Chasiv Yar last week after advancing through Khromove, a direct attack on the city without securing the flanks proved futile. Consequently, this week, they focused on reinforcing the northern and southern flanks of their offensive.

Despite initial difficulties in advancing through Bohdanivka, the Russians intensified efforts to fully occupy the village. Simultaneously, they managed to penetrate the forest north of Ivanivske, nearing the Siverskyi Donets channel. Here, they are amassing forces to breach the channel, a significant obstacle in their path. Perhaps due to the enemy's rapid progress, the General Staff has initiated reorganization and reinforcement of brigades responsible for defending this front segment. Chasiv Yar holds strategic importance in our defense system.

Post-Avdiivka front map: weekly update

The only positive development here is that the Russians failed to establish a presence on the left bank of the Durna River between Orlivka and Semenivka. Their repeated attempts to breach the defenses in this area have been unsuccessful.

Following their failed attempts, the enemy shifted their focus to the north of Berdychi, advancing towards Novobakhmutivka and Ocheretyne. They managed to make a breakthrough along the railway track, advancing about 4 kilometers and reaching the outskirts of Ocheretyne. While this breach didn't cause the Defense Forces' front line to collapse, it did pose a threat of a partial encirclement for the defenders in the western part of Berdychi and exposed the defenders of Semenivka to a flank attack.

Further south, an enemy airstrike destroyed the bridge connecting the northern and southern parts of Umanske. Consequently, the Russians proceeded westward, occupying a significant portion of the area between Umanske and the occupied Pervomayske. They are now attempting to break through towards Yasnobrodivka, where our defense line is established.

The Russians are exerting considerable force in this direction, recognizing that the shortage of ammunition significantly hampers the capabilities of the Armed Forces. However, their efforts to break through the front line by deploying all available reserves may backfire, as their losses continue to mount.

Developments in Kurakhove and Vuhledar areas

North of Marinka, enemy forces breached the southeastern part of Krasnohorivka, facing heavy artillery, mortar fire, and airstrikes from Ukrainian Armed Forces. Video footage captured Ukrainian stormtroopers swiftly clearing Russian occupants from a high-rise building using explosives. Intense fighting continues in the city.

Despite Russian offensive actions near Novomykhailivka, Ukrainian forces successfully halted the enemy's advance, maintaining stability on this front for a week.

However, it's clear that the enemy sees potential for an offensive in the Vuhledar direction, as they gather resources in neighboring areas and engage in battle. Recently, a minor enemy advancement was observed in the gray zone east of Mykilske village, near the outskirts of Vuhledar.

Map of active hostilities in Tokmak and Berdiansk areas

Russian forces have stepped up their efforts to challenge the gains made by the Armed Forces during the summer counteroffensive.

In the almost entirely demolished town of Robotyne, daily battles persist. Despite the occupiers' attempts to establish control in the central area, our Defense Forces repel them daily, a month-long standoff. Although the Russians have expanded the gray zone in Robotyne somewhat, they have failed to secure it. Meanwhile, they attempt attacks from Verbove, but our soldiers maintain their defense along this front.

After a two-week hiatus, Russian troops resumed their advance on Staromayorske. Similar to their previous attempt, they managed to dislodge our forces from several strongholds southwest of the settlement. We anticipate regaining these strategic positions crucial for defending the village, situated on key heights along this front.

The significantly higher than average enemy equipment destruction figures underscore the intensity of the fighting across the entire front. In just 15 days of April, our soldiers destroyed over 200 tanks, nearly 500 self-propelled guns, over 500 artillery systems, and more than 800 vehicles.

The maps presented are based on data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other reliable sources. While not entirely precise, they provide a rough indication of the situation in the war zone.
