On February 23, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Lviv to meet with Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen. The parties signed an agreement on security cooperation and long-term support. It is the first time Ukraine has entered into such an agreement with a country outside the Group of Seven.
This year, Denmark will provide Ukraine with €1.8 billion in military support. The Danish Fund for Ukraine has also allocated €8.5 billion to support our country in 2023-2028.
Ukraine's security agreement with Denmark differs from the previous ones in that it has a "powerful military bloc" in addition to the classic provisions on supporting Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO in the future, a new path of reforms, cooperation in cybersecurity, intelligence, defense industry, restoration of Ukraine, as well as sanctions against Russia and bringing it to justice.
"Denmark, as a co-chair of the Air Force Coalition (AFCC) and a member of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Coalition: "will support the efforts to ensure the full capability of the F-16 through the Air Force Coalition (AFCC), in particular by providing fighters, ammunition, training and exercises, as well as contributing to the long-term maintenance of the fighters and the creation of appropriate conditions in Ukraine," Deputy Head of the President's Office Ihor Zhovkva said.
According to the document, Denmark will support Ukraine for ten years within the term of the agreement. It is also possible to extend it with the consent of both parties.
The EU has approved the 13th sanctions package against Russia. Restrictive measures were introduced against 106 individuals and 88 legal entities involved in undermining Ukraine's sovereignty
"We are strengthening restrictive measures against the Russian military and defense sector, targeting other organizations in third countries that supply equipment, as well as those responsible for the illegal deportation and military re-education of Ukrainian children," commented EU top diplomat Josep Borrell.
The EU Council has decided to impose restrictive measures on 106 additional individuals and 88 legal entities responsible for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
The new lists, agreed today, primarily target the military and defense sectors and their associated individuals, including those involved in the supply of arms from the DPRK to Russia, as well as members of the judiciary, local politicians, and those responsible for the illegal deportation and military re-education of Ukrainian children.
In total, the EU's restrictive measures against actions that undermine or threaten Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence now apply to more than 2,000 individuals and legal entities.
On the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the United States plans to announce new sanctions against more than 500 Russian companies, legal entities and individuals.
The new sanctions will be a response to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and will be imposed on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
