Ukraine is making every effort to stop the supply of ‘kamikaze’ drones from Iran to Russia and is grateful to Polish President Andrzej Duda for communicating with the Iranian side on this issue.

This was stated by the spokesman of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleh Nikolenko in a comment to the PAP agency.

“Ukraine is taking maximum measures to stop the supply of drones and missiles from Iran to Russia. The work is being carried out in political and other directions,” he said.

In particular, during the conversation between President Zelenskyy and President Duda, there was a call for the Polish side to use Warsaw's opportunities to influence Tehran.

“We are grateful to the head of the Polish state for his help in communication with the Iranian side. The Ukrainian side also appealed to other countries to use their opportunities to influence Iran,” Nikolenko said.

According to him, efforts to stop the supply of Iranian weapons in no way undermine the tough position of the international community regarding the suppression of human rights in Iran.

“On the contrary, active pressure will force Tehran to respect human rights and international law,” the spokesman explained.

  • On October 11, Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia had ordered more than 2,000 Shahed-136 drones from Iran.

  • On October 20, the EU introduced a new package of sanctions against Iran for supplying weapons to the Russian Federation.

  • On October 21, Iran urged its citizens to leave Ukraine and not to travel there, in case the trip was planned.
