Ukrainian Railways demonstrates its first medical evacuation train

Photos of the medical evacuation train were published by the press service of Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia).

"The first medical car, which has no analogues in the world, was created in early March 2022. At that time, there were no drawings or technical documentation, but there was a great need for such cars. Railroad workers and medics converted the first such car in 4 days. Today, the total number of railcars involved in medical evacuation in Ukraine is 62 units," said Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to him, the medical evacuation cars were equipped with new generation equipment.

"All the cars are fully autonomous and equipped with artificial lung ventilation, blood transfusion, cardiac monitors, aspirators and other medical equipment thanks to the generator power supply. There are even resuscitation cars with oxygen stations; in some cars, in the most critical cases, it is possible to perform surgery while the train is moving," the company's press service said.

They emphasized that by the end of this year, the railroaders will have converted 8 more railcars for medical evacuation and to save the lives of Ukrainian defenders.
