Two Paralympians from Lviv, Ukraine, win 8 medals at World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon

Ukrainian athletes Pavlo Bal and Vasyl Kravchuk won 8 medals together at the World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon

The Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration shared the information. 

Two stages of the World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon among athletes with musculoskeletal disorders took place in Italy. Ukrainian athletes from the Lviv region, Pavlo Bal and Vasyl Kravchuk, 8 eight medals together: 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

During the initial stage of the World Cup, Pavlo Bal secured 4 medals:

  • January 24: In the 10 km race with a separate start, Pavlo Bal claimed 2nd place, while Vasyl Kravchuk secured 10th place. A total of 29 participants from 11 countries took part in this race.
  • January 25: The 10 km mass start race saw Pavlo Bal clinching 2nd place, with Vasyl Kravchuk finishing in 5th place. This event had 24 participants from 11 countries.
  • January 27: In the 1.2 km sprint, Pavlo Bal finished third in the final race. Vasyl Kravchuk did not advance to the final and secured 7th place in the semifinals. A total of 32 participants from 12 countries competed in this discipline.
  • January 28: The 5 km race with a separate start witnessed Pavlo Bal securing 3rd place, and Vasyl Kravchuk finishing 6th. There were 30 athletes from 12 countries participating in this race.

During the second stage of the World Cup, Pavlo Bal and Vasyl Kravchuk both secured two medals each:

  • January 31: In the 1.2 km sprint cross-country skiing race, Pavlo Bal claimed 1st place, while Vasyl Kravchuk finished sixth. This race involved 32 participants from 12 countries.
  • February 1: In the parabiathlon 7.5 km sprint, Pavlo Bal won the silver medal, with Vasyl Kravchuk finishing 4th. The race featured 17 participants from 8 countries.
  • February 3: The 3.9 km sprint pursuit parabiathlon race saw Vasyl Kravchuk securing 2nd place in the final race. Pavlo Bal did not participate in this event. A total of 14 participants from 6 countries competed.
  • February 4: In the 10 km parabiathlon race with a separate start and penalty laps, Vasyl Kravchuk won the gold medal. Pavlo Bal did not participate in this race. Fourteen participants from 6 countries competed in this discipline.

Both skiers are representatives of the Lviv Regional Center "Invasport".
