Ukraine, Netherlands sign security agreement: what does it provide for?
On March 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte signed an agreement on security cooperation
This is reported by the press service of the President’s Office.
The document was signed as part of the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine adopted at the NATO Summit in Vilnius. It provides for €2 billion in military aid to Ukraine this year, as well as further defense assistance from the Netherlands over the next ten years.
"The document contains a powerful military block that provides Ukraine with modern military equipment and support for the defense industry. The priority is to provide air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, support for maritime and long-range capabilities and, in particular, the Air Force," the President's Office informed.
Non-military support for Ukraine includes:
- assistance in the economic recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine;
- support in countering hybrid threats;
- cooperation in the field of intelligence, cyber and information security;
- cooperation in the fight against organized crime;
- cooperation in the field of critical infrastructure.
"In addition, the document has expanded the blocks on sanctions, compensation for damages and bringing the aggressor state to justice, as well as on the Netherlands' support for Ukraine's cultural heritage," the press service said.
The document also refers to support for Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO.
"The mechanism of 24-hour emergency response in case of repeated military aggression against Ukraine has been determined," the statement says.
During his visit to Kharkiv, where the agreement was scheduled to be signed, Rutte was briefed on the situation at the front and the critical needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
