Ukraine to conclude USD 15-20 billion agreement with IMF by end of 2022

Ukraine hopes to conclude a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund for USD 15-20 billion by the end of the year, to be paid out over 2-3 years

The head of the National Bank Kyrylo Shevchenko shared the news in an interview with Reuters.

"The IMF has always acted as Ukraine’s partner during the war. I hope to start this program this year," said Shevchenko.

According to the head of the central bank, Kyril Shevchenko, Ukraine faces an economic decline of 35-45% in 2022 and a monthly budget deficit of $5 billion as a result of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

Kyiv has already submitted its request to the IMF for a possible deal, and is currently consulting with the fund on new financing.

Additionally, Ukraine is currently negotiating with its international creditors to freeze debt payments to ease the liquidity crisis.

According to Shevchenko, the Central Bank of Ukraine already has a line with the Central Bank of Poland in the amount of $1 billion.

Regarding the Central Bank's intervention in currency markets, as well as its bond-buying program, Shevchenko stated that both would continue for now.
