Ukraine, Russia agree on mutual visits to civilian detention centers
The Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of the Russian State Duma have started monitoring the places where civilians are held
Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported this.
“On April 23 this year, Russians visited our citizens in detention centers in the Luhansk region, 17 people in total,” he wrote.
Instead, on May 3, the Ukrainian side, together with the Nadiya Public Organization, visited 17 defendants held on our territory and handed them pre-agreed sets of essentials.
“To confirm the validity of these monitoring visits, both sides exchanged lists of the persons concerned and videos that confirm the fact of communication,” Lubinets said.
Relatives were also informed about the visit.
“We hope that this practice will lead to the unblocking of the procedure for the release of civilian hostages and convicted persons so that they can be returned home as soon as possible!” the Ombudsman summarized.
