Ukraine returns two more children from temporarily occupied territories
Two Ukrainian children, 13-year-old Kyrylo and his 4-year-old brother Serhiy, have returned home from the temporarily occupied territories. Now they will undergo rehabilitation
Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.
"Recently we helped two more children return from the temporarily occupied territories. These are two brothers - 13-year-old Kyrylo and 4-year-old Serhiy. Their mother personally appealed to the Ombudsman's Office with a request to help bring the children to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine. We have processed the request and have a positive result," he wrote.
"The children also visited the Center for the Protection of Children's Rights. While at the Center, Kyrylo drew the flag of Ukraine on the blackboard and said that he loves his country very much. Such patriotism of young citizens is admirable!" added the Commissioner.
According to him, after the children return to the government-controlled territories, they and their families will be provided with psychological, legal and humanitarian assistance.
What is known about the return of children from the Ukrainian temporarily occupied territories
On September 14, Lubinets said that since the creation of a separate coordination headquarters for children, 386 young Ukrainians have been returned home. These are only those children who were deported to the territory of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the number of children returned from the occupation will be counted separately.
"We decided to divide these figures because it is one thing to return a child from the territory of the Russian Federation after deportation, and another thing is when we return children who were forcibly displaced within the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine," Lubinets said.
On the same day, the Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that a total of 112 children from Kherson region had been returned to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine since the beginning of 2023.
