Ukraine refutes fake that refugees in EU will be mobilized into army

This was reported by the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security.

The center notes that at the end of June 2023, Eurostat did count the number of Ukrainians who received temporary protection in the EU, but did so to understand the overall situation with regard to the number of refugees, not for mobilization. And they explain that diplomatic missions cannot deport Ukrainians for mobilization into the Armed Forces.

"The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine can only return to Ukraine men liable for military service who illegally try to cross the border during martial law and those who have no grounds for refugee status," the Center for Strategic Communications adds.

Only the following violations can be a reason for deportation: unpaid fines, overstayed visa, invalid invitation, criminal record not indicated at the time of visa issuance, violation of public order or illegal stay in the country.

• On August 27, the Latvian State Security Service said that Russian special services were trying to recruit Ukrainian refugees on Russian territory during the border crossing procedure.

• On August 26, the Government of New Zealand announced that it would grant residence permits to Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the country on a special visa.
