U.S. jury indicts suspect in killing of Ukrainian refugee, death penalty possible

A U.S. federal grand jury has indicted DeCarlos Brown Jr. for the murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska

NBC News reported the information.

According to the federal indictment, the jury found that Brown “intentionally killed” Zarutska during an attack on August 22 aboard a Charlotte Area Transit System train. He faces a possible death sentence.

The family’s attorney, Lauren O. Newton, said the family is “pleased with the indictment and we look forward to swift justice for Iryna.”

Brown’s defense attorneys declined to comment.
