Polish President Nawrocki vetoes aid law for non-working Ukrainian refugees
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed a law granting social benefits and free healthcare to unemployed Ukrainians
INTERIA.PL reported the information.
“I firmly believe 800+ aid should only go to Ukrainians who make an effort to work in Poland. The same applies to healthcare,” he said, calling it a matter of social justice.
Nawrocki explained, “I believe that we must achieve a certain form of social justice. Poles in their country should be treated at least as well as our guests from Ukraine. This is extremely important to me, so I did not sign the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens in its current form.”
He added he had proposed his own bill and urged the government and parliament to finalize it within two weeks.
The Family 800+ program provides PLN 800 monthly to parents of children under 18, including Ukrainians with temporary protection (Pesel UKR).
According to Polish media, 250,000 Ukrainian children received funds under this program during the first half of 2024.
