EU to appoint special envoy for Ukrainians
The European Union is set to establish a special envoy role for issues concerning Ukrainians in the EU and has already chosen a candidate for the position

Politico reported the information, citing two informed sources.
According to the outlet, Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs from 2019 to 2024, will become the EU’s future special envoy for Ukrainians in the European Union.
The special envoy’s role will be to "enhance coordination, represent the interests of Ukrainians, and implement practical support tools" for them within the European Union.
Johansson has visited Ukraine multiple times, including a refugee camp on the border with Romania, and in 2022, she was awarded Ukraine’s Order of Merit, 2nd class.
- The EU will extend the validity of the Temporary Protection Directive for Ukrainians until March 4, 2027, and will also offer member states recommendations regarding further measures.
