“Immigration Minister Marc Miller says he has no plans to extend an emergency visa program for Ukrainians beyond an end-of-month deadline for them to arrive in Canada,” the publication writes.
He noted that the extension of this program is not being actively considered.
But, according to Miller, Canada will maintain flexibility in responding to the migration aspect of the war in Ukraine.
“The operational flexibility needs to be there for what happens in Ukraine,” the minister said.
The Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) is one of a number of special measures taken by the Government of Canada to support the people of Ukraine. The program provides Ukrainians and their family members with extended temporary resident status and allows them to work, study and stay in Canada until they can safely return to their homeland.
