Ukraine may lose several million tons of crops due to Russians' blowing up of Kakhovka HPP - Ministry of Agrarian Policy
As a result of the June 6 Russian blast at the Kakhovka HPP, Ukraine may lose several million tons of crops in the flooded areas
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
"Two main blocks of products grew on the land affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP, one of them being vegetables and melons. The second block includes grains and oilseeds: soybeans, corn, sunflower, and wheat. Without a water supply, it is impossible to grow vegetables. Grain and oilseeds will be grown using an extensive model with low yields," said Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Head of the Ministry.
According to him, it is currently difficult to assess the damage to the left bank of the Kherson region, but it is known that several hundred thousand tons of grain were stored there. Over 100 thousand tons of crops were lost on the right bank.
The flooded areas need a full agroecological assessment of the soil condition, but after the water has gone down. In most cases, special methods of soil restoration will need to be applied, the official emphasized.
