Ukraine integrates civilian volunteers into air defense network
On June 11, Ukraine approved a plan to form volunteer air defense groups to counter kamikaze drones and other aerial threats
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported the information.
The project was launched by the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, following a decision by the General Staff. Its aim is to involve trained civilians in air defense efforts and to establish an effective system for detecting and neutralizing aerial threats.
According to the Ministry, air defense groups will be organized on a territorial basis. They will report to the commanders of the Territorial Defense Forces, and for air defense operations, to the Air Force Command.
These groups will consist of volunteers who are not subject to mobilization and have received the necessary training. They will be authorized to use strike drones, manned aircraft, personal firearms, electronic warfare systems, and artificial intelligence technologies.
Members of the air defense groups will be entitled to the same social benefits as regular military personnel, including salaries, privileges, and insurance coverage.
