Ukraine has yet to receive official confirmation of U.S. missile supply suspension
The Ukrainian side currently has no official confirmation of a suspension of missile and other ammunition supplies from the United States for air defense systems
Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, said Ukraine has not yet received any official confirmation that the U.S. is pausing arms deliveries.
"Look, it is premature to say that the Ukrainian side has official confirmation at this time. We only have a statement from the White House Press Secretary. I believe our diplomats will get involved in this process. We expect to receive complete official information soon about what decision has been made and exactly which types of equipment have been restricted," said the Ukrainian official.
According to him, any restrictions on supplies of equipment that are very important to Ukraine are undoubtedly negative.
However, Venislavskyi emphasized that the Ukrainian government, understanding the risks of current international political realities, has been working on various options to minimize the negative consequences for Ukraine.
"This includes such a scenario. Ukraine has a certain reserve of capabilities. I think our diplomats, the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the President, and parliamentary diplomacy need to engage to ensure that we continue receiving supplies from the U.S.," Venislavskyi added.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense requests a phone conversation with U.S. to discuss arms supplies
Later, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said it was looking into the current situation regarding the delivery of US defense aid amid reports of delays. The ministry confirmed that Ukraine has not received any official notice about suspensions or changes to the delivery schedule. It is working based on actual data and reviewing details of each delivery item.
The Ministry of Defense also requested a phone call with its US counterparts to clarify the situation. They promised to share official updates after contacting their American partners.
The Ministry of Defense added, “Some individuals in Ukraine commenting publicly on this situation do not have all the facts for valid reasons. Please rely on official and verified information from trusted sources.”
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites Chargé d'Affaires of the United States
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said the main topic in talks with the American diplomat was US military aid and defense cooperation amid Russia’s escalating aggression and terror against Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian side emphasized that any delay or slowing down in supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities would only encourage the aggressor to continue war and terror, rather than seek peace,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Russia continues to reject the full and unconditional ceasefire Ukraine agreed to on March 11, while intensifying air attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities, killing civilians and attacking on the battlefield.
The parties also discussed ongoing consultations on defense supplies at all levels and planned further contacts between Ukraine and the United States. These talks aim to find solutions to strengthen Ukraine’s defense and increase pressure on Russia to support peace efforts.
Kremlin’s reaction
The spokesman for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, on July 2 responded to rumors about the possible halt of U.S. arms supplies to Ukraine.
“The fewer weapons are supplied to Ukraine, the closer the end of the ‘special military operation,’” TASS quoted him as saying.
“It is also in the interest of the U.S. that Ukraine does not lose this war,” – Rutte
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that he understands the U.S. administration’s desire to prioritize its own interests, while also calling for continued military support for Ukraine. He said this in an interview with Fox News, as reported by European Pravda.
“But when it comes to Ukraine, in the short term Ukraine cannot do without all the support it can get, particularly in terms of ammunition and air defense systems,” Rutte noted.
The Secretary General recalled that at the NATO summit last week, the presidents of Ukraine and the U.S. held a meeting and “had a very good discussion, including on air defense systems.”
“Yes, I understand that the U.S. must take care of its own weapons stockpiles. At the same time, we must allow for a certain degree of flexibility,” Rutte said.
He separately emphasized that European countries are also increasing their defense spending and aid to Ukraine, “but we cannot do without the practical support of the U.S.”
“It is also in the interest of the U.S. that Ukraine does not lose this war… And a secure Europe also means a secure U.S. These things are all deeply interconnected,” the NATO Secretary General concluded.
