Ukraine has better chance of joining NATO than EU
Political expert Taras Zahorodniy noted that it is the Ukrainian army that brings Ukraine closer to joining the Alliance
He said this on Espreso TV channel.
“Any communication with NATO brings Ukraine closer to the Alliance. The Ukrainian army is moving towards NATO standards, making it the closest thing to NATO. Ukraine has a greater chance of joining NATO faster than the EU. The US and Great Britain recognize the potential benefits of Ukraine's membership in NATO, as it would strengthen the Alliance and contribute to European security. There is consensus within NATO regarding Ukraine's entry into the Alliance, except for Hungary, which may block Ukraine's entry. However, a few calls from Washington can resolve this issue constructively,” Zagorodniy emphasized
Zagorodniy suggests that before joining the Alliance, Ukraine should focus on building military infrastructure of interest to NATO.
“Hungary has not crossed any red lines, and it even supports sanctions against Russia. It voted in the UN for reparations for Ukraine from Russia, along with Turkey, when many countries did not vote. European nations are interested in Ukraine's entry into NATO, as it would expand the number of buffer states between Western Europe and Russia. However, Ukraine should prioritize guaranteeing the security of its territory. Economic development will be challenging without security assurances,” he noted.
