Ukraine carries on offensive on southern front, Russia tries to recapture Urozhaine in vain – General Staff

This is stated in the evening report of the General Staff.

At the same time, the Ukrainian army carries on offensive operations in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions, consolidates its positions, and carries out counter-battery measures.

Over the last day, Ukrainian aviation carried out 7 strikes on Russian personnel concentrations and 2 on air defense systems

Ukrainian defenders also destroyed 2 Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters. 

In turn, Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit 4 artillery pieces at firing positions, 2 ammunition depots and an electronic warfare station over the course of the day.

Russian troops also launched 27 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed. 

There were 24 combat engagements over the last day.

On the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus, the operational situation has not changed. 

The situation in other sectors is as follows:

On the northeastern border with Russia, Russian forces launched mortar and artillery attacks, targeting a total of over 20 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near Synkivka, Kharkiv region. They carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled 7 more settlements across Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.

In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region. Russian forces carried out air strikes near 4 settlements and shelled over 20 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions with artillery.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army near Bohdanivka and Bila Hora. Russian troops carried out air strikes near 2 settlements and shelled over 20 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian troops launched an unsuccessful offensive near the village of Keramik, Donetsk region. They also carried out air strikes on 2 settlements and shelled over 10 more with artillery. 

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces hold back the Russian offensive near the town of Marinka and Krasnohorivka. Russian troops launched air strikes near Krasnohorivka and shelled over 10 settlements in the Donetsk region with artillery.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russian troops shelled around 10 settlements.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction,  Russian troops launched air strikes on Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region and shelled over 20 settlements.

In the Kherson direction, Russian forces shelled over 15 settlements.

On the morning of August 17, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed Russian Ka-52 helicopters in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
