UK intelligence reports rehabilitation of Wagner elements by Kremlin
Wagner PMC fighters appear to have been reintegrated by the Russian administration following the unsuccessful "March for Justice" in June 2023
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense.
On November 14, 2023, some Wagner PMC members received veterans' certificates, marking the first official recognition of Wagner mercenaries as veterans.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has implemented a new system allowing Wagner Group veterans to obtain certificates and corresponding awards. The Wagner Group has recently been incorporated into the command structure of the Russian Guard.
"This highly likely signals the rehabilitation of some Wagner elements by the Russian administration. This follows a long period of uncertainty on how the administration would regard Wagner personnel in the wake of the Wagner Group's mutiny and abortive "March for Justice in June 2023," states the intelligence report.
- On Monday, November 6, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, shared a video showcasing the training of the Akhmat battalion, claiming that a significant number of former Wagner soldiers had joined.
