UK intelligence identifies weak points of Russian defenses in Kherson region
The Russian forces' ability to hold the occupied territories in the Kherson region will depend on the coherence of the new units that were transferred to the south of Ukraine.
This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense on Twitter.
British intelligence draws attention to the fact that on the morning of August 29, several brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine increased artillery shelling on areas of the front in southern Ukraine. Ukrainian long-range, high-precision strikes continue to hinder the supply of Russian troops. At the same time, analysts note that it is still impossible to confirm the scale of Ukrainian achievements.
The British emphasize that since the beginning of August, Russia has been making significant efforts to strengthen its positions on the western bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson area. The 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District was probably reinforced by units of the 35th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District. But most units around Kherson are likely undermanned and rely on fragile supply lines via ferry and pontoon bridges.
This integration of units of these districts indicates a significant reorganization of Russian forces in Ukraine. "There is a real possibility that Russia has taken steps to rationalize several operational commands that performed poorly at the beginning of the invasion. If Ukraine succeeds in launching sustained offensive operations, the coherence of these units could become a key factor in the stability of Russian defenses in the south," concluded the British intelligence.
