UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN James Kariuki made the statement at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
He noted that his country is "fully committed to holding Russia accountable for its illegal actions in Ukraine."
“The International Criminal Court’s announcement is an important step for ensuring those responsible are held accountable,” Kariuki said, adding that “barbaric atrocities have been committed during this conflict, including against children”.
“It is right that these should be independently investigated, and those accountable face justice,” he pointed out.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly also wrote about this on her Twitter page.
"Canada welcomes the ICC’s decision to issue arrest warrants for President Putin and Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for their alleged roles in the egregious scheme to deport Ukrainian children to Russia," said Joly.
She emphasized that Canada "stands firmly with the people of Ukraine".
On Friday, March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova. Representatives of various states and international organizations reacted to the ICC's decision.
The same day, the UN Security Council discussed the humanitarian situation in Ukraine caused by the Russian war. The Russian delegation tried to push through a speech by a representative of the "DPR," but the Security Council rejected this provocation.
