Top Zelenskyy aide: “I believe in Trump — When America is serious, Russia backs down”
Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office Andriy Yermak praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his decision to give Vladimir Putin 10–12 days to make peace with Ukraine. He believes this will show the Russian leader that Washington is serious about ending the war in Ukraine
He said this in a comment to the New York Post.
“It is necessary to act. I believe in America. I believe in President Trump. When the US leads, the free world follows. When America is serious, Russia backs down,” emphasized the Head of the President’s Office.
Commenting on the recent scandalous remarks by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, who, in response to Trump’s decision to give Putin 10–12 days to make peace with Ukraine, threatened war with the U.S., Yermak said: “Maybe he was drunk.”
According to him, the new sanctions package being prepared by the U.S. will have a devastating impact not only on the Russian economy but also on all pro-Russian narratives.
“These first steps will destroy any Russian narrative and some pro-Russian forces which still try to share the narrative that nothing will happen, and that Kremlin and Putin will continue this game. It’s necessary to not believe in Russian propaganda,” Yermak said.
He also stressed that Russia wants to continue the war, but it can only be stopped by force. According to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, sanctions combined with heavy Russian losses at the front will lead to growing discontent among Russians themselves.
“People will start asking Putin more loudly: ‘For what did you start all this and why don’t you want the war to end?’” Yermak added.
- Earlier, Yermak stated that U.S. President Trump could end the Ukraine war this year if he enforces tough sanctions on buyers of Russian oil and gas.
