"Time for Russia to come to table in good faith": Canada's new PM Carney speaks with Zelenskyy

Newly appointed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Carney shared the news on X.

He said he had a series of calls with Canada’s closest allies, including Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to discuss Ukraine’s path to peace.

"Canada supports the proposal for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Now, Russia must stop stalling and launching its attacks. It’s time for Russia to come to the table in good faith," Carney said.

He added that Canada plans to tighten sanctions monitoring to pressure Russia into compliance.

"Canada is Ukraine’s steadfast ally. We will make sure Ukraine has the military support it needs to defend itself — now and into the future," he added.

On Friday, March 14, Mark Carney officially took office as Canada’s new prime minister, replacing Justin Trudeau.
