These are the results of the Eurobarometer survey organized by the European Commission, which was conducted between January 12 and February 6 in the EU and 12 countries outside the EU, the Rheinische Post reports.
It is noted that economic sanctions continue to have significant support among the European population. 74% of Europeans support them.
A similar picture emerges regarding the supply of weapons and other military assistance to Ukraine. These measures are supported by 65% of Europeans. It is noted that in West Germany, 69% of respondents support arms supplies, while in East Germany, 55% – are against it.
The latest release of the regularly published Eurobarometer also focused on public satisfaction with the EU and its member states' response to the war-related crisis. An overwhelming majority (51%) of Germans said they were satisfied with the EU's response to Russian aggression. However, this figure is heavily influenced by dissatisfaction in East Germany: only less than a third of people there are satisfied with the actions of the federal government and the EU since the outbreak of war.
At the same time, 92% of people in Germany approve of the provision of humanitarian aid to people affected by the war.
Jörg Wojahn, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Germany, believes that the EU's policy on Russian aggression in Ukraine has been largely confirmed.
"In general, most Europeans support the clear course that the European Commission and member states are pursuing: money and humanitarian aid for those affected by Russia's attack, acceptance of refugees - we see a lot of approval ratings," he says.
On March 20, it became known that most EU countries had approved a plan to supply ammunition to Ukraine. However, there has been no official announcement yet.
Several countries are not on the preliminary list of project participants, but Hungary has recently officially announced that it has refused to participate in the purchase of 1 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine.
Later, it became known that Poland and several other countries had not signed the EU plan to supply ammunition to Ukraine because they had not completed "internal procedures."
