"This cannot go on": IAEA Director General expresses concern over another power outage at ZNPP

IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi expressed his concern over another ZNPP power shutdown as a result of the massive missile attack on Ukraine on March 9

This was reported by the IAEA press service.

After Russian shelling on March 9, the last line of communication with the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP was disconnected, and the station remained de-energized.

"Yet again, Zaporizhzhia NPP is running on emergency diesels – the last line of defense. This is the sixth time – let me say it again – the sixth time that the ZNPP has lost all its side power and has had to operate in this emergency mode. Let me remind you, this is the largest nuclear power station in Europe. What are we doing? How can we sit here in this room this morning and allow this to happen? This cannot go on," Rafael Grossi emphasized.

"Each time we are rolling a dice. And if we allow this to continue time after time, one day our luck will run out," he added.

Grossi called on the IAEA staff to commit to protecting the nuclear safety of the ZNPP.
