"There will be retaliation": intelligence chief on potential Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

The head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU), Kyrylo Budanov, says that Russia will be punished for potential attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the fall

He made the statement in an interview with the Economist.

According to Budanov, Ukraine is working on a special campaign of deterrence and retaliation to counter possible attacks on energy facilities by Russian troops in the fall and winter.

"Let them start. They will also receive an answer," the DIU chief emphasized.

In addition, he rejected the assumption that Ukraine's increased strike capabilities could lead to an escalation of the war. Budanov noted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes against Russian troops do not violate the rules of war.
