The Russian Federation uses simplified procedure to illegally give Russian passports to people in the temporarily occupied territories

Russia is issuing citizenship to everyone living in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including people who don’t have the Luhansk/Donetsk issued “passports” and Ukrainians deported to Russia.

Ombudsman Ludmila Denisova informed about this in her Telegram.

She noted that the Russian Federation is illegally issuing passports to the people living in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine via a simplified procedure, and that from now on the people there can get a Russian citizenship without possessing an illegally self-declared independent states’ passport.

The only requirements are possession of a Ukrainian ID passport and a registration on the temporarily occupied territories. Also it is required to present an accommodation registration. Russia is also simplifying the citizenship programs for Ukrainians departed to Russia.

Ludmila emphasized:

“All Ukrainians who were forced to get Russian passports are still Ukraine’s citizens. Ukraine does not recognize any Russian documents, made up and forced on people by the Russian Federation. With these actions Russia is continuing to violate the provisions of the IV Geneva Convention about defense of the civilians during war.”

The ombudsman appealed to the UN Commission about this investigation of violation of human rights during the war.
