
Ukraine mayors and municipal officials tout Ukraine-Taiwan ties in Taipei
A total of 35 mayors and municipal officials from 11 Ukrainian metropolises are visiting Taipei in an effort to strengthen Ukraine-Taiwan ties and secure large-scale funding for numerous city-level projects.
Led by Mayor Andriy Sadovyy of Lviv, the delegation is organized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). It is scheduled to attend the 2025 Taipei Smart City Expo, where members will target Taiwan companies with invitations to provide more support for Ukraine and participate in rebuilding projects.
According to Sadovyy, Ukraine is receiving significant support from Taiwan. He cited reconstruction of the Unbroken Rehabilitation Center in Lviv, as well as a nationwide donation of nearly 3,000 notebooks and 500 generators purchased by the MOFA.
Echoing Sadovyy’s remarks, Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv of Uzhhorod praised the government of Taiwan for providing assistance and support during Russia’s brutal and illegal war of aggression.
During a gala welcome banquet for Sadovyy and the delegation at headquarters of the MOFA, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Deputy Minister François Chihchung Wu said the MOFA is working to expand exchanges and strengthen relations between Taiwan and Ukraine across all areas.
The MOFA sad it welcomes enhanced Taiwan-Ukraine ties, as well as the deepening of partnerships between both countries’ cities.
