"The situation in Ukraine is not expected to change in the foreseeable future. The Federal Council therefore decided at its meeting on 1 November not to lift the protection status S for Ukrainian refugees before 4 March 2025," the statement said.The Swiss government has also set a target for labour market integration, planning to employ 40% of people with S protection status who are able to work by the end of next year.
As of the end of October 2023, about 66,000 Ukrainians had active S status in Switzerland. The S protection status will be valid until the government cancels it. A prerequisite for cancellation is the sustainable stabilization of the situation in Ukraine.
On October 19, EU countries finally approved the extension of temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine until March 2025. At the same time, Poland and the Czech Republic requested additional funding.
