Suspected spy for Russia detained in Poland

A citizen of another state suspected of collecting and transmitting information in the interests of the Russian Federation has been detained in Poland; he has already confessed to being a spy 

RMF24 reported the information, citing a statement from the Gdańsk District Prosecutor's Office.

The spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, Grażyna Wawryniuk, said that the foreigner was detained on Tuesday last week. The court chose a temporary measure of arrest for 3 months. 

According to the investigation, the man collected and transmitted various information to representatives of Russian services, including information about critical infrastructure in the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships and the activities of Polish security structures. In particular, it is believed that he has been performing espionage tasks since at least January 2023 on the instructions of his handlers.

After his detention, the man reportedly confessed to being a spy and described how he was recruited. The circumstances of his detention and citizenship have not been disclosed. 

If proven guilty, the man faces up to 10 years in prison.
