Suspected deserter fires at policemen with a machine gun in Rostov region, Russia

An unknown person fired a machine gun at three policemen who were looking for a missing woman in the suburb of Novoshakhtinsk, in the Russia’s Rostov region

This is reported by TASS news service, with reference to the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.

Around noon, patrol officers in civilian clothes searched the area and drove to the village of Novaya Sokolovka. There, they noticed a man in camouflage walking along the road and headed towards him - at that moment, the person opened fire with a Kalashnikov machine gun and wounded one of the policemen.

According to the Telegram channel "Baza", after the shooting, an unknown person fled, and the city announced the "Sirena" plan. Security forces blocked entrances and exits from Novoshakhtinsk, kindergartens and schools there also stopped working, and residents were asked not to go outside.

According to preliminary data, the shooter may be a deserter. However, there is no information about his identity yet. Novoshakhtinsk itself is located on the border with the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, and the city used to be a checkpoint between Russia and Ukraine.
