Spain will hand over 6 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine in coming days

In the coming days, Spain will supply Ukraine with 6 out of 10  Leopard 2A4 tanks it pledged earlier

The Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said this in an interview with the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe, Tagesschau quotes.

He noted that after the delivery of the first six tanks, there will be a second package with four more Leopard 2A4 tanks. He also added that Spain will support Ukraine as long as it is needed.

"This includes humanitarian aid, refugee admissions and the supply of defense weapons," Albares emphasized.

The publication reminds that over the past few weeks, 55 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Spain as crew and technicians on Leopard main battle tanks. In total, the country has 347 Leopard tanks. Of these, 108 belong to the older 2A4 variant and 239 to the newer 2A6 type. Spain currently has no plans to give newer models of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, as they are needed for its own national defense.
