This is stated in a statement by the Spanish Ministry of Defense, according to European Pravda.
"After completing the necessary administrative formalities, the Minister of Defense (of Spain - ed.) signed a project agreement on Wednesday on the joint purchase of ammunition within the European Union," it said.
Thus, Spain became the nineteenth country to participate in the project.
Its purpose is, first, to increase the supply of artillery ammunition to the Armed Forces; second, to introduce joint procurement by European states and accelerate its pace to replenish their own stocks; and third, to rapidly increase the production capacity of the European defense industry.
At the same time, the agreement was signed by Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, and Norway.
On March 20, it was reported that most EU countries had approved a plan to supply ammunition to Ukraine. However, there has been no official announcement yet.
Several countries are not on the preliminary list of project participants, but only Hungary has officially declared that it has refused to participate in the purchase of 1 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine.
Poland and several other countries did not sign the EU plan to supply ammunition to Ukraine. In Warsaw, the non-signing of the agreement was explained by the fact that internal procedures in the country have not been completed. However, they did not say what exactly they were talking about.
